PE and School Sport Funding

 PE and School Sport Funding

The government is determined to secure a significant and lasting legacy from the very successful 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games that were held in London. In order to achieve this and improve the provision of PE and sport in primary schools, additional funding of £150 million per annum has been made available for a number of academic years..

At Broadgreen Primary School we believe that sport plays an important part in our children's lives  as it contributes significantly to their health and well-being. Sporting excellence and participation, alongside strong cultural opportunities, go hand in hand with academic standards.

We have used the Sport Funding to purchase coaching from Everton in the Community (EitC)  which primarily gives us qualified sports coaches two days per week to work with both our pupils and staff to provide high quality PE sessions. Monitoring shows an improvement in the quality of delivery of PE lessons among all teaching staff since the funding began. The most recent monitoring saw all lessons being good or better. The funding has had a positive impact on the sporting experiences of our children in a number of ways perhaps most significantly by widening the participation element of sports competition for our children.

Our sports coaches deliver fun packed, quality games session for our pupils whilst at the same time providing professional development for our teachers, enabling them to learn from a qualified and highly experienced sports coach. This ensures that our staff are able to embed the strategies they have learnt from the coach in their own PE lessons.  Additionally EitC are able to offer an after school  for our pupils, these sessions are very popular.
Following an audit of staff skills and confidence we identified gymnastics and dance as areas of need and so we now work with Beth Tweddle Gymnastics to deliver CPD for all staff and high quality sessions for pupils as well as a dance coach from EitC.

The funding has also allowed us to improve our resources ensuring our pupils have access to high quality equipment to support their learning in PE.
