Reception - Zoologist

In Reception your teachers are Mrs Allen and Mrs Darbyshire and your learning support assistants are Ms Black and Mrs Forrester. Our class name is Class Zoologist. We will learn all about this aspirational career throughout the year. It’s going to be an exciting year full of explorations and adventures!

Class Information

In Reception, we offer a fun, creative curriculum which supports individual needs and learning styles, and caters for children’s interests. Children in foundation stage learn through play, talk, exploration and observation of the world around them.

There are seven areas of learning, three ‘prime’ areas which build the capacity to learn (Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development) and four ‘specific’ areas which help strengthen the prime areas.  The specific areas are applied through Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Children will have daily phonics, maths and literacy sessions delivered through adult-led activities both as a whole class and small groups. The children also have the opportunity to pursue their own, child-initiated activities and interests. They can also take their learning outside with our secure outdoor area and covered conservatory. Each area of learning is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. Play is essential for children’s development, builds their confidence as they explore, think about problems and relate to others.
